THE PROJECT AREA

Our project covers the modern parishes of Wantage and Grove within the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire.

At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the ancient parish of Wantage included within its bounds the settlements and fields of the hamlets of Grove, Charlton and West Lockinge. In our journey to explore these lost boundaries we will also encounter long-forgotten settlements and land units which now only remain as ‘ghosts’ in the landscape.
